In the movie, The Great Debaters, A team from Wiley College in the south rose up through their competition to finally become national champions. They had many set backs on the way. My social problem was about teen pregnancy. The Movie did not have Teen pregnancy in it.
I believe this because of when and where the movie takes place. It is in The segregated south. During these times teen pregnancy was very normal. Heck , people even got married at 14 and 15 years old. It was not a big deal at the time and therefore would not be appropriated for the movie. One thing I can compare is when they debated on poverty. Teen mothers are often left as single mothers who are poor. In the movie there was a point made when the only female member on the team stated "How could a mother look in a hungry child's eyes after shes worked in the fields and come back with no food" This quote relates most to my social problem. Teen pregnancy is caused by poor parental guidance and this may keep going from generation to generation unless an outside force intervenes.
